Professor Dennette Gravey is an instructor at the university teaching various subjects in counseling and sociology. She grew up on the outskirts of Jacksonville, Florida until she first left for college. The daughter of Marcus (a southern preacher and natural herb farmer) and Leola (a natural healer, massage therapist, and librarian), she had a peaceful yet informative childhood. The early education of good health and “small town” economics (barter & trade) was ingrained in her at the early age of 7yrs old.

Dennette graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Spellman College and received her master’s degree in counseling from Washington State University. She at this current time is studying for her doctors at Midwest City South University in “Fieldwork Theory of Social Development in rural areas,” but also teaches classes so her education would be free of charge. Currently, the professor runs a Domestic Violence Shelter for Women and families in the downtown section of the city. Her love for teaching the youth will soon involve her in the struggle of freeing them.

Even with this struggle, she will find love instead of just love of the community….
